Modelling star cluster formation: Gas accretion

چکیده

The formation of star clusters involves the growth smaller, gas-rich subclusters through accretion gas from giant molecular cloud within which are embedded. two main mechanisms responsible for this dense filaments, and ambient background cloud. We perform simulations both these processes onto using coupled smoothed particle hydrodynamics to model gas, N-body dynamics stars. find that, processes, accreting cluster loses some its original mass while gaining either or filament. amount lost is small compared total cluster. However, in case a medium, net effect can be decrease if it travelling fast enough medium ($> 4$kms$^{-1}$). that filamentary independent density, width, number filaments funneling into always such constantly increasing with time. compare our results idealized prescriptions used larger scale GMC act as an upper limit when describing they represent.

Star Formation Efficiencies and Star Cluster Formation

Starbursts produce large numbers of Young Star Clusters (YSCs). Multi-color photometry in combination with a dedicated SED analysis tool allows to derive ages, metallicities, EB−V, and masses including 1σ uncertainties for individual clusters and, hence, mass functions for YSC systems. The mass function, known to be Gaussian for old Globular Cluster (GC) systems, is still controversial for YSC ...

Equilibrium Star Cluster Formation

We argue that rich star clusters take at least several local dynamical times to form, and so are quasi-equilibrium structures during their assembly. Observations supporting this conclusion include morphologies of star-forming clumps, momentum flux of protostellar outflows from forming clusters, age spreads of stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC) and other clusters, and the age of a dynamical...

Critical Accretion Rate for Triggered Star Formation

We have reexamined the similarity solution for a self-gravitating isothermal gas sphere and examined implication to star formation in a turbulent cloud. When parameters are adequately chosen, the similarity solution expresses an accreting isothermal gas sphere bounded by a spherical shock wave. The mass and radius of the sphere increases in proportion to the time, while the central density decr...

Massive Star and Star Cluster Formation

I review the status of massive star formation theories: accretion from collapsing, massive, turbulent cores; competitive accretion; and stellar collisions. I conclude the observational and theoretical evidence favors the first of these models. I then discuss: the initial conditions of star cluster formation as traced by infrared dark clouds; the cluster formation timescale; and comparison of th...

Accretion of gas by globular cluster stars

Some recent observations of the abundances of s-process, r-process, and α elements in metal-poor stars have led to a new scenario for their formation. According to this scenario, these stars were born in a globular cluster and accreted the s-process enriched gas expelled by cluster stars of higher-mass, thereby modifying their surface abundances. Later on, these polluted stars evaporated from t...
